Kato is a recipe design and production business established in 1992 by leading New Zealand chef Russell Cowley.

Early in that year, Vinnies restaurant, with Russell as chef, was voted the city's best. Kato’s first commercial recipe was the now famous char-grilled red peppers. 

Though these are still a popular item, the company now produces two product ranges of the premium modern sauces & condiments. One for the home, offering modern flavours for daily use (Kato) and a second that carries the niche flavours cafés, restaurants, caterers and airlines demand (Prep Kitchen).

Kato uses the freshest seasonal ingredients from trusted growers combined with classic techniques and innovation to deliver uncompromising quality to your kitchen. Food made with passion and flair.
